SMILE Vol. 7 June 16, 2018 (H30)

Looking forward to seeing you in two months!

It is getting warm these days and I can feel that summer is almost here. And do you know what that means? Yes! The summer break starts next week!! We will be having Suikawari, a watermelon splitting game, to celebrate the end of our first semester. We have to have it in the summer, right? I’m sure you had a lot of great memories of Suikawari when you were growing up in Japan. And in this long summer break it is a good time for the kids to spend time going back their books to review what they have learned so far the past couple of months. Also it is a great time to explore their interests and enjoy a lot of fun activities. But I want you to remember many accidents would happen in summer time. Thus please make sure your kids are being safe during this summer break and I’m looking forward to seeing them in two months! I’m sure they will experience many things and some of them might become bigger
and suddenly hard to recognize!

Also I would like to thank all of wonderful parents who’ve been helping this school. We had a great first semester which was very smooth, no issues or accidents so I really appreciate your generous support of the school and the children. I hope you and your family have an amazing summer and see you in mid-August!

The Field Day by バーンハートルカ(3 rd Grade)

I’ve been waiting for it for a very long time. Yes! Field day finally arrived! I was in the White team and I was hoping our team would win! Although the forecast said it was going to be rain so my mother told me we would have to have it in the gym which is a little too small for the field day. I didn’t want it in the small gym so I kept my fingers crossed wishing it would be sunny that day. Despite the forecast we were able to have the field day outside so that I had a great time rooting for my favorite events such as the running race or the tale of the King’s tail. Before my event, I was a little nervous I would drop my package because we didn’t have enough time to practice for my event, “Here is your package!” but I was so relieved in the end that I finished running without dropping it!
I had a great time with my old friends and new friends cheering my team together. In fact that was the best part of my field day! (Pic: the center is Luca and the above is his friend, Kohei Kirino)

Let’s learn together! The joint class program: the 1 st grade elementary

We had a joint class combined with 1 st grade and Keisho 1 students on June 16 th . They read a story called “Omusubi kororin”, rolling rice balls, and discussed many things about that story. What is the difference between “omusubi” and “onigiri”? Is there any other Japanese traditional stories with an old man in them? What would you like to have if you had a gavel like in the story? The students were so excited to answer that question and they wanted a cat, a video game, candy or friends and more! It was a great opportunity for the kids to make new friends and spend time together reading the funny Japanese story!
