SMILE Vol. 13 September 22, 2018 (H30)

Bazaar – New Cafeteria was filled with smiles

September 15th was the first annual bazar JLSP children had been looking forward to.
There were concerns about effects from a huge hurricane FLORENCE on that day but fortunately, the weather was nice and the bazaar was held as scheduled. There were many items for sale inside and outside of the freshly renovated cafeteria, such as homemade dishes by parents, fresh produce, goods from a bakery, books and games. Smiles of children – who was thinking what to get or was enjoying delicious foods left a special impression.
Profits from the Bazaar was $5,741.25 and this entire amount has been donated to JLSP. We are truly thankful from the bottom of our heart. A huge thank you to parents who did planning, negotiation, shopping, venue setting, operation, donated their books and planned fun games. Also, thank you to supporting companies who came all the way to join us. We are very grateful.
Children’s happy face and parents’ fond look reminded me of the fact that JLSP is supported by all those people. We all teachers will make every effort to meet everyone’s expectations in return. Thank you very much.

Volunteer at Kindergarten Classes (High School Class)

In the morning, you can hear delightful voices in kindergarten classes. Its volunteers from High school class. Before a class starts, High School students play and read with Kindergartener. Children love volunteer students and teachers appreciate their help. In 10 years, these children will be in High School and they will come beck to Kindergarten classes as volunteers. These mornings give us a dream in a JLSP sense.

Looks Yummy…

At the bazaar last week, students from Keisho class 2 and 4 visited the site to observe mothers preparing bento boxes for sale.
Keisho students will try to make their own bento box as a experimental learning in the fall. Students saw a neat process of filling array of bento boxes, saying “looks yummy!” “Color combination is beautiful”.
What kind of Bento boxes they will be making in November?

Can You Hold a Pencil Correctly?

Every Saturday, if there is no meeting in the morning, I try to visit as many class rooms as possible to observe children in learning. There is one thing I am concerning recently; the way they hold pencils.
In fact, I find myself holding a pencil incorrectly and try to correct it sometimes but it is difficult at this age.
Pay attention to hold pencils with 3 points: Thumb, Index finger and Middle finger. I encourage teachers to instruct children the correct way of holding pencils at early stage. Please pay attention and teach children at home too. Let’s be mindful how to hold a pencil and write neat, beautiful letters.

For those who park at Lankenau Hospital

On some days, there is no attendant at the parking booth. In that case, please pay out of pocket first, then fill out a expense sheet and bring it to Teachers Room with payment receipt to get a refund. (Accounting Div.)
