SMILE Vol.34 February 17, 2018 (H30)

Back to the basics and cherish your daily life!

New year has started for everyone. The month of January quickly ended and even the middle of February is about to pass. School year is about to end for JLSP students. In about 20 days, second year kindergarteners, elementary school 6th graders, middle school 3rd graders and high school 3rd graders will graduate. And the rest of the students will finish their school year. Especially for those who are graduating, this can be considered the end of a major period in life.
In order for each student to go on to higher levels in education and advancement, I would like them to go back to the basics and cherish the daily life and the lessons at school.

Teachers wanted!

JLSP is operated on the principal of volunteering force and assistance by the parents. Teaching faculty from Japan and Japanese government assistance are secondary to them.
When we don’t have enough teachers to allocate all the classes through the school year, some activities have to be cancelled and cannot provide an adequate learning environment for the children.
In order to nurture the dreams and hopes of children, we are in search of enthusiastic people to be homeroom teacher candidates and substitute teachers. And to give students through support we are also recruiting teaching assistants.

◆ class days and class hours
Days: Every Saturday (40 days per year)
Hours: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Courses: kindergarten, elementary, middle School and high school, Japanese as a heritage Course
Elementary School… Homeroom teacher
Middle and High school… Teachers for particular subjects

Mandatory requirement of wearing JLSP name tags for parents and staff

The word “School Crisis Management” reminds me of the “Ikeda Elementary School random stubbing incident” in Osaka. A man with knife entered the school ground from the car entrance and took the precious life of some first and second grade students studying on the first floor. In the wake of this incident, questions were raised about suspicious individuals not only seen around schools but inside the school grounds and buildings. Concrete response was given to the specific problems.
Our school operates out of campus renting from Friends Central School, there is a limit to the safety of the facilities and equipment. However, we have been making efforts to make parents wear name tags all the time during school hours in the Friends School campus to protect children. Not to mention the parents and the staff, please be sure to advise wearing JLSP name tags to people visiting the school.

The publishing deadline for “Yokozuna” reading award

We list the name of children in SMILE to promote the student’s reading and send the certificate to further encourage them to read more books.
As we consider the number of remaining SMILE issues until the end of school year, we decided on the deadline to report on Saturday, February 24, and the names will be posted on March 3 issue.
