Lightning and thunder at dawn signal the arrival of spring<\/h1>\n

A few days ago, I was woken up by the lightning and thunder before dawn. \u201cIt is spring thunder(\u6625\u96f7-shunrai)! Spring is approaching!\u201d, I got excited in bed and could not fall asleep anymore. When I got out of bed, I looked up the definition of the word \u201c\u6625\u96f7\u201d. \u201c\u6625\u96f7\u201dmeans thunder that forms from March through May, which signals the arrival of spring. It is also called \u201c\u866b\u51fa\u3057\u306e\u96f7(mushidashi-no-kaminari, meaning bug-poking thunder)\u201d, because it wakes up the insects that has been hibernating over winter. My body and soul must have been longing for spring to arrive from recent extreme cold weather.
\nFor ages, Japanese people reflected changes of four seasons onto their calendar. We have been embracing the seasons and lived with them side by side. We are feeling the seasons with our five senses.<\/p>\n

Adult Courses\u2019 New Year Celebration<\/h2>\n

On January 20th, the students of adult courses experienced calligraphy at our annual New Year Party. We invited our calligraphy instructor, Kawab<\/p>\n

ata Sensei, and worked on words such as \u201c\u798f-fuku-Happiness\u201d, \u201c\u521d\u96ea-hatsuyuki-First snow\u201d, \u201c\u611b-ai-Love\u201d, and \u201c\u6b63\u6708-shogatsu-New Year\u201d.<\/p>\n

A student who was trying again and again to write the same words commented, \u201cSeeing Kanji and Writing Kanji are two completely separate things! Until now, I haven\u2019t thought about spaces between small dots and spaces between lines\u2026\u201d. We calmed down our minds and concentrated on the art of calligraphy. It was a great experience at the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n

Last year, the consulate of Japanese foreign ministry conducted a site survey of\u00a0JLSP\u2019s security measure and a report has been issued.\u00a0Although we received a high evaluation, some suggestions for improvement has been made.\u00a0One of the suggestions was to wear the name tags 100% of the time. The name tag serves as ID and as permit to enter the school buildings.\u00a0It also allows us to recognize\/identify outsiders. Please wear it at all times!<\/p>\n
